Update 2: The Gender Recognition Act & Upcoming Changes

California Senate Bill 179 (SB179), also called the Gender Recognition Act, will allow people to change their gender to a third "X" option. This is largely recognized as a victory for non-binary and gender-nonconforming people! This change will affect state drivers licenses, ID cards, and other state documentation. Because this will be implemented partially on September 1, 2018 and in full on January 1, 2019, the document will be updated in real time to reflect changes in the legal process.
